COMMUNITY OUTREACH SCHOOL SUPPORTED PROGRAMME

The Gem Project through its Community Outreach Programme supports non-residential learners with school support and assistance. The objective is to ensure that learners from marginalised communities who are not able to complete school to due financial constraints and difficult home situations, are supported and assisted to remain and complete schooling. Annually we provide qualifying beneficiaries with various support. This includes payment of school fees, purchasing of school uniforms, stationery and books, toiletries and all other school supplies. We also assist to find suitable schools and assist the parent in the admission process of learners to local community schools.

Our community school supported children and youth attend the Gem weekly after school and sports programmes in the local communities. They also participate in Gem Community School Holiday Programmes, Annual Bootcamps and based on their progress in school and behaviour, are invited to participate rotational weekend stay-overs at the Gem House. This allows our non-residential and residential learners to engage and interact as part of our social engagement programmes.

Our community team does regular check-ins and home visits to assess and track learners academic progress and performance.

As part our community outreach programme, we run weekly soccer clinics, life-skills workshops and soup kitchens in marginalised communities. This we run in partnership with local NGO’s and community structures to ensure that we expand outreach and impact.  Our Gem Community Holiday programmes run during April, June, September and December school holidays. And to end off the year, our community and residential school supported juniors are invited to attend the Gem Annual Juniors Bootcamp.
