Jaden is a real success story. He is our ‘Gem baby’. Jaydon was residing with his grandmother in one of the most impoverished  and poor areas in the City. He was terribly neglected and malnourished. On being informed of the situaiton, the Gem Project Social Worker intervened and with the permission of his mom, Jaydon was put into the care of the Gem Partial Care Facility. At that time, Jaydon’s mom was a student of the Gem School, and she was then re-united with her child as the Gem Project for the interim period allowed Jaydon to stay with her at the Gem House. As his mom was a teen mom, lacked parenting skills, responsibility and was not able to see to his basic needs properly, Jaydon was put into the care of one our our longest standing Gem staff members, a care mother who is also one of the Gem Projects’ foster moms. His case was then referred to the Department of Social Development who managed his case file and after all the formal processes was concluded, Jaydon he was put into the temporary care of the Gem Project Community Safe House. Jaydon received all the necessary attention, care and love from the Gem family as a whole. He was our youngest family member and enjoyed the full attention of the Gem staff, children and youth. Jaydon attended a local creche for a  duration of 1,5 years.  He remained within the care of his foster mother Zerina & Stanley Walter until he was adopted in 2018. Jaydon celebrated his 4th birthday on the 24th May 2019. He is a regular visitor and his adopted parents have nominated Walter and Zerina as his ‘adopted Grandparents’.
